Dinner in Cusco, Day 3


What a feast at a very nice restaurant across the street from our hotel, which is only a couple blocks from the main square in the city.  No guinea pig on the menu tonight, however, alpaca tenderloin and river trout ceviche did not disappoint.  Whether it's the altitude, the beauty of this ancient city, or the hospitality, giddy seems like the appropriate adjective to describe our arrival in Cusco.

Sorry Kathy, no baby pool green paint push-up rituals at the equator...and the water is suspiciously still swirling clockwise, in the southern hemisphere...more investigation to follow...

Here is a hilarious Cusco video which will make anyone smile: Lama rides in a cab This morning, I went to school with my homestay mama Zenaida, she is a language teacher at Santa Rosa School where four of our kiddos are this week.  I was able to spend a few minutes with them this morning before class and they had rapid fire stories of their families and what they've been doing.  They all said it was scary for the first hour or so, then they felt right at home.  I was able to sit in the same language class with Matteo and they were learning about presenting in front of an audience.  After a handful of kids presented their narratives, they worked in small groups to write a new narrative from the point of view of an animal, which they presented to the class.  What a treat. Machu Picchu, PICTURE UPDATE, Day 4

Wow. What an incredible place.  The Inca engineers started the "city in the sky" around 600 years ago, as a royal retreat and religious sanctuary for the emperor, not only beautiful and strategic and advanced, the city connected to the sky, the earth and the underworld.  I am left feeling like I want to return asap, without a time constraint or schedule.  Lisa, Paul and I are incredibly proud of these flexible and curious kids.  What a bunch of troopers. Siri and Uma summarize how we are all feeling after 4 long days of nonstop movement.  Hazel and I are arguing about how many legs we have made on our four day odyssey, I say 17 and she says 20.  Either way, it feels great to be still.  These pictures are in reverse order of how we actually spent our two hours in Machu Picchu, so if you start at the bottom, you'll see what we saw.
